Design and Technology International Research Conference 2009

Design and Technology Association Education and International Research Conference 2009:  D&T – A Platform for Success
Loughborough University, Tuesday 30 June – Thursday 2 July
 
For all D&T teachers, primary D&T co-ordinators, heads of department and researchers who want to find out about the latest D&T developments, extend their professional expertise in managing a department or focus area, increase their confidence in subject skills through practical workshops and engage in debate about aspects of D&T. The three-day conference has self-selectable strands for all, focusing on: research, leadership and management, primary D&T, CAD/CAM, food, SEN, electronics, 14-19 update, textiles, product design and KS3 & exam update.

Strands include:
Research
  • Presentations of papers on a range of areas
  • Discussions and guidance on conducting research
Primary
  • Considering the new curriculum and the place of D&T
  • Practical Food session
  • Early Years Foundation Stage D&T
  • D&T/SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) ‘Butterflies in my Tummy’ project
  • Primary Design Mark
  • Workshops provided by the East Midlands CPD Partnerships
SEN
  • SEAL and practical behaviour management
  • Exhibition and group presentation of SEN work including GCSE
  • The new primary curriculum and SEN
  • Supporting learners with new resources
Secondary
  • Leadership and Management in D&T – developing teams, cross-curricular work
  • Key Stage 3 and Examinations update, making KS3 high tech
  • 14-19 – working with the new GCSE specifications, diplomas
  • Design processes (KS4), teaching design elements, developing design decision making, assessing pupils’ progress in the revised KS3 curriculum
Subject specialisms
  • Textiles – good practice and new ideas at KS4, Speedstep software, using recycled textiles
  • Food – including Active Kids Get Cooking, Healthy Eating, getting ready for compulsory food technology in 2011, building a new food room
  • Digital D&T – electronics, CAD/CAM and product design: progression in CAD.CAM, making STEM work in practice, helping your students to get better at electronics, working with the new GCSE specifications, learning by disassembling, ArtCAM, engineering – past, present and future
